A Question of Perspective

364 Miles from Littleton

We’re on the final leg of our trip and Nebraska has been nothing short of our expectations.

We stayed at a lovely Comfort Suites Hotel (we stayed in one of these last trip too; I highly recommend them) last night, in Lincoln, NE, just next door to the local hospital’s cancer center. We even saw Obama/Biden and HRC stickers on cars in the parking lot.

Lincoln is more city-like than I expected, though there weren’t any buildings higher than 8 stories that I could see. The local Outback Steakhouse was decent, but we got the eyeball in ways I’ve not experienced in years. Apparently they don’t make so many dykey looking folks around here. I felt ok about it though, because other than the wirey-looking fellows at the bar, most of the folks staring at us couldn’t catch me on their best day. Lincoln, NE needs a serious diet plan.

Today finds us without any decent coffee to speak of again (we blew by the one Starbucks by mistake, and the next exit was 20 miles off… no turning around.) There’s cows aplenty… for those of you who order Omaha Steaks, I just waved good morning at your next shipment.

This morning’s paper (the Lincoln Journal Star) had a lovely article about proposed legislation around showing ultrasound images to women requesting abortions… all in the name of “informed consent.”. Uh huh. Not a hard leap to understand how this place was home to one of the most famous queer murders ever. This is not a place I want to spend much time in, never mind grow up anything other than straight as an arrow and unquestioning of my gender.

We should be home by 2-ish… leaving me plenty of time to unpack (or at least begin the process) and grill up something healthy for dinner. This restaraunt food all day every day is killing me…

  • Yes... but a little sick. Other than that, two thumbs up!
  • How is it? Are you loving it?
