BlackBerry Breathing Space
WAY back when I first started visiting Megan in Colorado, I mentioned that I feel better here. That I can breathe.
It’s nice.
But for a while, I was sort of strangling my own breath right out of me… with my BlackBerry.
I know, that’s a little dramatic, but I’ve found that I’ve got to be a little over on the other side of crazy (the opposite of where I’ve been for so long, enamored to the point of ridiculous with the little thing) to get myself right, and breathing, again.
So, if you’ve been keeping up, I’ve been trying to put the thing down, talk to the real live humans in my life, and give myself a break from hyper-connectivity.
It’s working.
Last week, we took Woolverine and my BFF up to Rocky Mountain National Park, where I took a few pictures of elk, we went on a hike that was way harder than it looked (for me anyway), and I didn’t use my BlackBerry. At all.
That’s right, for 4 days, I was BlackBerry free.
Now, that’s a little bit of a lie, because I took it with me so that Woolverine and BFF could check in for their flight on Wednesday morning. But for the better part of Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, I was unconnected.
Good stuff.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I still love my BlackBerry. It is an undeniably awesome tool. It makes travel easier, more seamless for my clients, and makes it so I don’t need to lug a computer all around with me.
But too much of a good thing is, in this case anyway, not so good.
Progress is slow but steady.
I’ve also been trying to not have it with me so much on weekends… yesterday was a moderate success. I had it with me as I drove all around creation returning potential wedding shirts, and did read the email that came in, but didn’t respond to it.
Which is nothing short of a miracle.
