Of late, I’ve fallen into the deep end of the social media pool, Twitter specifically.
It’s to be expected… I mean, Oprah tweets now, seems like the whole world will be fast on her heels.
I’ve found things that used to melt my brain exceedingly interesting, like figuring out the CSS for this blog’s theme and tweaking it until I’ve finally got it where I want it.
Twitter (want to follow me? @edelbonis) has been capturing a big chunk of my attention as well… I’m trying to vet out what’s useful, what’s funny, what’s good and what’s just a bunch of hooey.
Like MySpace, Twitter lends itself to mass numbers of sketchy folks trying to get me to pay attention to them. At first I was like, “Cool! Look at all these folks following me!” Then I got over it and realized that they were following the entire known universe.
I’ve been trying to do a little reading about Twitter etiquite… don’t want ot be the asshole at the party. It seems like there are definite tiers of Twitter users. I’ve not yet figured out on which tier I’d like to sit.
I think I’m doing a decent job of treading water… for the moment, anyway.

The fact that Oprah tweets now and Ashton is up to a million followers, creeps me out a bit. It feels like Twitter has jumped the shark already and this media event has solidified that for me. Of course, I have tweeted maybe twice, so what do I know? But it feels more like it will be useful as a data collection tool for marketers and social anthropologists than a medium for sharing info with your friends and following interesting people. The noise to signal ratio seems like it’s about to explode. Again, grain of salt.
Speaking of data, have you checked out Daytum? http://daytum.com/
Also: http://localtweeps.com/ might be fun for you.
I meant to include http://www.grafitter.com/ also. Like Daytum, but only for Twitter data.
