On Getting Married

I’m engaged.  We’ve decided on next August for a date, and so we’ve plunged headfirst into this thing that is wedding planning.

[I still sort of want to elope, or have Elvis marry us in Vegas, but they still don't let the queers marry there, which, all things considered, makes no sense that Vegas wouldn't let queers marry there, but that's another post...]

Some things about wedding planning:

  1. The rings – I really like the rings.  They are sparkly, and yes, I am aware that nobody thinks I am a diamond person, but they’ll just have to get over it.  There are diamonds.  I like them.
  2. The venue(s) - It is so royally irritating  to live in a state that has miles upon miles of beautiful coastline, and about a billion amazing places to get married, and we can’t get married here.  Irritating.  So we’re looking in MA and CT.
  3. The dress - She found a dress online and showed it to me as the type of dress she likes.  It makes me giggle and snort like a 15-year-old boy who can’t talk to the pretty girl.  Seriously, it’s that good.
  4. The reactions – We are having a small private ceremony and then a reception a couple of days later.  The number of people who are upset that they don’t get to go to the ceremony was a little surprising to me.  But surprising in a, “huh” sort of way, not in a we might change anything sort of way.  [Did I mention my idea about eloping?]

More on the whole thing as it evolves…
