A Question of Perspective

Rerouted and Still on the Ground

I’m trying to go to Alaska. With 3 colleagues and one extra.

We were supposed to fly out of Providence (why is it called Providence when it’s in Warwick?) at 6:30 this morning. But that flight was delayed by 3.25 hours. Which would have pushed everything else off, getting us to Alaska at approximately never. Or 11:30pm their time. Which is like 3:30am eastern time.

We would have been AWESOME for our 8am meeting tomorrow.

So we regrouped, rented a van, and drove to Logan.

Get to the Hertz at Logan. Rush to the shuttle. Rush to the counter. Rush to security. Where I get flagged for a full body pat down. Fun times, indeed.

Finally, we get to the gate. Which, thank God, is right across from a Hudson News, because I didn’t bring a book. Because I thought the 2 hours early that I was arriving at PVD would afford me time to do a little book purchasing.

I buy my book. I buy a water. I buy a Newsweek with Sarah Palin on the front.

And I get on the plane.

I usually fly Southwest, which is not exactly luxurious, but they sure do get you off the ground and moving in a timely way. I can’t say the same for Alaska Air.

So I stand in line for like forever until a finally sit way in the back of the plane. We, the passengers have been yelled at 3 times for bogging down the line… it’s fun, fun, fun around here.

We’re sure to take off soon. Oh wait, I hear the flight attendant giving us hell (in her very nice way) again for our bad boarding behavior. (That makes 4.)

Does it really take almost 7 hours to get to Seattle?
